Sweet Home Cafe in Kamloops offers a unique blend of a neighborhood coffee spot and a family-friendly hangout, making it especially well-suited for parents looking to balance some downtime with quality childcare. Nestled on Hillside Drive, this cafe combines casual dining with a supervised play area where kids can explore and interact with others under the watchful eye of staff. This setup is ideal for stay-at-home parents or caregivers wanting a moment to relax or catch up on errands while their children enjoy safe, engaged playtime nearby.

The menu caters to a broad range of tastes, with casual items like wraps, quesadillas, and bread boats featuring approachable flavors such as teriyaki chicken, avocado shrimp, and classic tuna salad. Coffee and beverages hold their own too, with cold drinks like iced chai tea latte and orange iced tea providing refreshing options during warmer months. The atmosphere is low-key and welcoming, with the kind of friendly familiarity that makes return visits comfortable rather than formal.

Locals seem to appreciate that the cafe focuses on accessibility and practicality: fair pricing, reliable supervision for kids, and a vibe that encourages lingering over coffee without feeling rushed. On weekdays, it’s a dependable spot for families to gather, with parents often dropping off kids for hourly play or staying to work or read while keeping an eye on their little ones. Weekends in summer are a noted exception, as the cafe is closed on Saturdays, suggesting weekday mornings and afternoons are the peak times for family visits.

Overall, the Sweet Home Cafe stands out less as a trend-driven coffee bar and more as a community-friendly place where the practical needs of parents and kids are thoughtfully balanced with homey, fresh food and drinks. If you’re in Kamloops with children — or simply want a quieter cafe experience where you won’t mind a bit of playful background noise — this could be a reliable stop on your local rotation.

Nice little play place with coffee and snacks available to parents while the kiddos play. Fair price and covid protocols in place. Masks for all required. Our grandkids loved playing with the toys and other kids while supervised and facilitated by the child care provider. Parents can stay and pay a lower rate while having a coffee and watching them play. There are drop off hourly rates. Nice for a cooler or rainy day.

This is my favorite place to take the kids in town! I come here at least once or twice a week. The prices are amazing, and they have a great variety of delicious food for both adults and kids. The owners are super friendly too. I honestly wish everyone could experience this place. If I had to pick one downside, it’s that they’re closed on Saturdays during the summer. If they were open on saturdays, I’d probably come three times a week! Highly recommended Also bbq sauce they make is delicious !!

My family was so pleased by this quirky little cafe. I love the model of having a supervised play area so adults can run errands or sit and relax in the cafe. I loved my refreshing tomato and cream cheese croissant sandwich with cucumbers, lettuce and sliced cheese. My husband really enjoyed the chicken quesadilla. The best thing we found was the kids "Favourite 6" where for a very affordable price our 5-year-old could choose from a wide selection of snacky items to build his own plate. After many days on the road and countless grilled cheese and French fry lunches, he was very satisfied with a platter of chocolate milk, edamame, Vienna sausage/hot dog cut into cute shapes, apple slices, pretzel sticks, and a chocolate chip cookie! It was great to have a diverting play area for him while we adults planned the next leg of our journey. We will definitely be stopping here again the next time we pass through town!

Great break for mom or dad, decent food/coffee/drinks, love that they have a person to watch your kiddos so you can get a break. Great for stay at home parents! Highly recommend. Only wish is that it would be open weekends.

The food here is always fresh and their prices are really reasonable. The staff and owners are lovely and welcoming. Great kids area too, with supervisors who are kind and remember my daughter's name (even though we're not there often).

Super friendly staff. Great food and home of the famous Yakiniku Sauces. I use these sauces almost daily and can't recommend them highly enough.

Such an interesting place! We thought the supervised play area was a great idea, so relaxing as a busy mom. Our son enjoyed the toys and mom enjoyed coffee and banana bread. Very fair prices as well. The food was ok… nothing special but definitely healthier and more kid-friendly than any fast food place. The facility could use some updating but overall, we enjoyed this place and will return next time we’re in town.

Such a lovely spot! We came in with our 16 month old for a pit stop on a road trip. She got to play and we all got to eat! She loved the quesadilla and fruit. Very reasonably priced. Fun play area. Very clean. We will be back!
